Our Story: Preserving Railway Heritage

What began as a personal fascination with abandoned railway architecture evolved into a mission to preserve and share Canada's railway heritage with those who appreciate the intersection of history, engineering, and cultural legacy.

Every station tells a story worth preserving

The Beginning

In 2018, a chance encounter with the abandoned station at McAdam, New Brunswick, sparked a realization. These structures, built with such care and craftsmanship, were disappearing from the landscape. Their stories, the communities they served, and the architectural traditions they represented risked being lost to time and neglect.

Research revealed a pattern across Canada. Hundreds of historic stations faced uncertain futures. Some had been demolished. Others deteriorated slowly, waiting for someone to recognize their value. A few communities had successfully preserved their stations, transforming them into vibrant cultural spaces.

Our Approach

We partner with heritage organizations, local communities, and preservation societies to create experiences that generate appreciation and support for these historic structures. Each tour, workshop, or educational program contributes to the broader effort of railway heritage conservation.

This research serves multiple purposes. It informs our educational content, supports preservation efforts, and creates a permanent record that future researchers and communities can access. We have assembled one of Canada's most comprehensive private collections of railway station documentation.

Railway heritage belongs to the communities that grew up around these stations. We work closely with local historical societies, municipal governments, and long-time residents to ensure our programs reflect authentic community experiences and support local preservation priorities.

Many of our most compelling stories come from interviews with individuals who worked in stations, lived nearby, or experienced significant life events on platforms and in waiting rooms. These personal narratives add depth and emotional resonance to architectural and historical facts.
